A lifelong Progressive and third-generation union member, Chris Brooks is a Nevada native who grew up and then raised his own family right here in Assembly District 10’s neighborhoods. A father to three children – Arielle, Alan, and Calvin – and grandfather to two, Grayson and Clark, Chris wants to build a better Nevada for all our families. Chris shares a 60-year-old home in Las Vegas’s historic McNeil neighborhood with his family, including his fiancée, Michelle.
Chris Brooks and his family are the epitome of the American Dream. Like many others, Chris's family came to Las Vegas over 65 years ago seeking opportunity and work.
Chris and his 4 brothers and sisters were raised in a Las Vegas blue collar family by his parents who worked on and off the Strip to make ends meet. Chris had to drop out of high school in order to work full time. After having his first child and getting married as a teenager, he eventually earned his GED while putting bread on the table for his young family by working construction around the valley.
Chris believes the beauty of Las Vegas is the ability to become successful and achieve your dreams despite your background and income level. In fact, that belief has defined his entire adult life. When Chris was employed as an electrician for the IBEW Local 357, he recognized the opportunity to create a strong renewable energy industry right here in the Silver State. That's why in 2001, Chris started one of the first solar companies in the country, located here in Assembly District 10 -- sparking an entire green economy movement.
Later in his career, Chris became the Director of Bombard Renewable Energy in Las Vegas, managing the company’s solar energy projects and creating green collar jobs. Chris was responsible for the development of approximately 1,000 renewable energy projects in Nevada including a 14-megawatt solar energy plant at Nellis Air Force Base and the 26-megawatt Stillwater Solar Plant in Fallon.
When it comes to developing a clean energy economy and creating job growth in the Silver State, Chris has walked the walk. Through his efforts, he employed thousands of Nevadans and helped make our state a leader in the clean energy 21st century. Now, Nevada is cleaner, greener and more energy independent than ever.
After serving as the Executive Vice President of Energy Services for Valley Electric Association, Chris ventured out and started his small business, Brooks Consulting, to continue his work growing and greening Nevada’s energy infrastructure. He is a past AFL-CIO “Contractor of the Year” and in 2013 was honored with their “Friends of Working Families” award.
Chris has also dedicated himself to strengthening our community and protecting our environment, volunteering to help the homeless, coaching youth athletics, and serving on the boards of Nevada Partners, the Nevada Conservation League, and the Nevada Preservation Foundation. Chris enjoys spending his free time on all things Nevada, and enjoys learning, sharing, and preserving the history of this great state for his children and grandchildren.
Whether it’s working blue collar jobs to put food on the table for his family, or innovating new ways to make Nevada a leader in renewable energy, Chris Brooks has what it takes to be the leader Democrats need to take back Assembly District 10 – and fight for our progressive values in the legislature.
